Behind the Dev: Black Gate Games
Well, kiddos, we recently had the opportunity to visit scenic Franklin, Tennessee, and visit the home base of Black Gate Games. First and foremost, this studio is a classic gamer’s dream, complete with ceiling tile mosaics in the shape of Tetris blocks and Space Invaders! We’ve included a few snapshots of the environs here.
With a comfy gaming lounge and walls adorned with art in both classic 8-bit glory as well as more beatific depictions of Zelda characters, Black Gate Games is certainly not your average office space. *swoon*
Of course, we weren’t there to gawk (although that didn’t stop us, mind you). This was our opportunity to sit down with John Gould and Elonka Dunin, the senior leadership of Black Gate Games. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make the trifecta, as the third member of the lead team, Peach Pellen, is all the way out in Arizona… and we can’t afford a private jet.
I’ll keep this post a bit brief, as the interview video is available below and clocks in at just under half an hour of high quality exposition delving into the background of the founders, the history of Black Gate Games, and what to expect in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. Spoiler alert: if you are a mobile developer, you need to watch this interview.
As always, if you have questions, want to see your favourite studio featured in the future, etc., let your voice be heard in the comments section below!
