Franchise games that term applies to so many games today. Oh this franchise is a exclusive to this system or that system. It does not stop with systems there are even multiplatform franchises. Some titles a franchise works for others not so much, in fact some franchise games have gone on so long that you know people buy them just because (insert reason here).
I know that once a title is released and it sells well then a sequel is all but guaranteed and that’s fine. In fact a video game franchise is not a bad thing success is of course good for business. However when I read a article about a game in development and I see the developers talking about what they are going to do in the next installment. I think to myself how about you finish this one first and see how it does before you go and plan the next one.
As if there were not already enough franchises out there now we have a franchise within a franchise (a franception perhaps). It’s like developers say hey lets create a new IP (intellectual property) then decide that more people would play it if it had the name of a existing franchise.
I myself would like to see the bigger developers get away from franchise game after franchise game. Instead I would like to see them try out new things they may fail but at least they would’ve tried. I personally hate it when I am looking at the release calendar for the year and most of the highly anticipated titles are franchise games.
