Free Games With Prime – Free Indie Games For Members
Game streaming service Twitch has added a new layer to their service. For those with a Twitch Prime membership, starting on 3/15/18 you will gain access to free games. “Free Games With Prime” as the service is being dubbed. It’s like the subscription services offered by Sony and Microsoft.
Free Games with Prime will put the spotlight on indie games
While it’s true that the service is like Playstation Plus and Xbox Games with Gold. There is one significant difference. Free Games with Prime is giving you games to keep. Which is very different than the rotating games that the other services offer.
While the service currently only offers indie games for download. I wouldn’t hold my breath for AAA titles to be added to the service anytime soon. To be honest, that’s perfectly alright, indie games benefit from this more than any AAA title would. This new service available to Twitch Prime members will give many indie games exposure that they’d never get otherwise.
Add to this the fact that many Twitch users will get these free titles, and then choose to stream them. Providing these titles with even more exposure, which would amount to free advertising for these developers. Advertising that they wouldn’t have gotten without Free Games with Prime.
The service will be allowing players to download five games for the month of March. Then another five games for the month of April. Hopefully, you get the picture, that’s a total of 10 games over the course of two months.
In truth, this move shouldn’t come as a complete shock considering what Amazon Prime members get access to. Since Amazon owns Twitch it makes sense that they would start implementing these types of features. Although, I must wonder if someone over at Amazon HQ is a Transformers fan. Given the fact that all their subscriptions services have prime in their name.
Regardless of how you may feel about the fact that Amazon now owns Twitch. There’s no denying that the streaming of indie games is probably about to get busy.
