The Indie Game Movement – Forcing People To Take Notice!
There was a time when all gamers had to look forward to was the next big AAA release. Those days are long gone. We now live in a time where a studios size no longer factors into rather or not a game releases. It’s now easier than ever for a developer to see his/her game published. This has of course led to a huge rise in indie games. At first many dismissed these titles as sub-standard. Now the indie game movement is too big to ignore and it only continues to grow.
The indie game movement has made indie games the cool kid at the party.
Indie games have risen in popularity greatly over the last 10 years. After what many thought of as a rocky start. Indie games now consistently deliver quality experiences. It’s true that not every indie game is a hit, but then neither is every AAA title. New indie titles come out on a weekly basis it seems. Everyday new gamers join the indie game movement. All this has led to indie games earning a seat at the big boys table.
Indie games had some breakout stars in the early days of the movement. Soon after that titles begin popping up on the major home consoles. The more services that released indie games the more people became exposed to them. I’m not sure when it happened, maybe it was a Tuesday but indie games could no longer be ignored.
Now companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo have programs only for indie games. It has become common for indie games to have a place at shows such as Gamescom and E3. Sharing the stage with AAA titles both on consoles and at shows cements the fact that indie games are here to stay.
The movement is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Indie games are finally getting the recognition they deserve. All I can say to that is it’s about time.
