Nindies Showcase Summer 2017 – Indie Games Become The Star
Over the past couple of days Nintendo has made a lot of headlines. These headlines have revolved around the Nindies Showcase Summer 2017. The presentation which streamed on Wednesday. Saw the gaming giant announce a plethora of indie games coming to the Nintendo Switch.
The Nindies Showcase Summer 2017 is a solid move on Nintendo’s part
While this isn’t a new move from Nintendo. It couldn’t have come at a better time for the Switch. The games announced during the presentation, will provide much-needed influx of new games. While the console has seen a steady release of new games. The periods between AAA titles is still a point of contention for some players.
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has showcased Nindies. Showcasing Nindies was common practice on the companies Wii U platform. So, it’s not surprising that the company would continue the practice with the Switch. The company hasn’t always had the best track record when working with outside developers. That looks to be something that the gaming giant hopes to change. The company seems to be looking to the indie community for that change.
One thing that stands out about the showcase is that indie games are the star of the show. Which is something that doesn’t happen often enough. While the presentation wasn’t as long as some of the company’s direct broadcasts of the past. It was still more than enough to get people excited if the news stories are any indication.
Nintendo also seems to be very keen on furthering its ties with indie developers. Based on this statement from the company.
The Switch is a unique console given its hybrid nature. How difficult this makes it on developers is at best guess work. Given the versatility of the device may prove attractive to some developers. Nintendo titles by themselves aren’t enough to sustain a home console. Nintendo would be wise to continue fostering relationships with indie developers.
The Switch could become a console that’s known for its indie games library as well as its AAA games library. If Nintendo is smart then we’ll also get a Nindies Showcase Winter 2018.
