Review – Waveform – Riding The Wave Of Fun
Waveform offers players an experience that will be difficult to match. Using simple game mechanics and an even simpler control scheme the game is easy for newcomers to learn. Don’t let the simplicity fool you however; Waveform will test you as few games today can. While the game is really easy to learn it will take even veteran gamers time to master.
Waveform offers a fun game in a unique package.
The game is broken down into levels; there are even some DLC packs available for the game for even more challenging content. Given the game’s name it should come as no surprise that you must modify the path of a wave. This is done by modifying two variables, the wavelength and the amplitude. This is accomplished by using the mouse, based on the movement of the mouse determines what the wave will look like. This is something that’s very important as the games levels progress.
How you modify your wave path is important, that’s because you want to modify it in a way that allows you to get light orbs. Light orbs are found in different sequences each level. Getting all of the orbs in a sequence will not only help your score it will also give you a speed boost. The more light orbs you collect over the course of a level will contribute to your score for that level. Of course it’s not all waves and light orbs, as the game progresses you must also modify your wave to avoid obstacles. Just as the light orb sequences become more elaborate so do the obstacles.
Once you’ve completed a level you’re taken to a score screen. You’re scored based on your performance in the level, that score is then compared to the levels completion goal. The completion goal is a preset score that you have to match in order to get a 100% completion achievement for a given level. If you don’t meet a levels completion goal, don’t worry you can still progress to the next level. If you’re all about the completion however fear not, you can replay a level as many times as you want. This is something that comes in very handy especially while you’re still learning the game.
Waveform is a fun and engaging game, the game takes a unique concept and runs with it. If you’re looking to save the princess, or slay the dragon or some great epic story than the game probably isn’t for you, the game doesn’t need those elements to work. If you’re looking for a game that will challenge you while also offering you something different then Waveform is for you.
